Plant-microbe interactions. Affairs of the plant: colonization, intolerance, exploitation and co-operation in plant-microbe interactions.

چکیده
Plants are the primary carbon source for nearly all terrestrial non-photosynthetic organisms, including ourselves. Many species seek to tap this photosynthate, and plants are continuously resisting their strenuous and intimate advances. The review articles in this issue of Curretzt Opittiotr itt Platrt Biology address recent progress in several relationships, some more polite and considerate than others, between plants and other organisms. (For reasons of space, most plant herbivore interactions were not addressed.)

Lessons in Effector and NLR Biology of Plant-Microbe Systems.
A diversity of plant-associated organisms secrete effectors-proteins and metabolites that modulate plant physiology to favor host infection and colonization. However, effectors can also activate plant immune receptors, notably nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat region (NLR)-containing proteins, enabling plants to fight off invading organisms. This interplay between effectors, the...
متن کاملMicrobial interactions within the plant holobiont
Since the colonization of land by ancestral plant lineages 450 million years ago, plants and their associated microbes have been interacting with each other, forming an assemblage of species that is often referred to as a "holobiont." Selective pressure acting on holobiont components has likely shaped plant-associated microbial communities and selected for host-adapted microorganisms that impac...
متن کاملLeaf-FISH: Microscale Imaging of Bacterial Taxa on Phyllosphere
Molecular methods for microbial community characterization have uncovered environmental and plant-associated factors shaping phyllosphere communities. Variables undetectable using bulk methods can play an important role in shaping plant-microbe interactions. Microscale analysis of bacterial dynamics in the phyllosphere requires imaging techniques specially adapted to the high autoflouresence an...
متن کاملSPECIAL ISSUE: NATURE’S MICROBIOME Diffuse symbioses: roles of plant–plant, plant–microbe and microbe–microbe interactions in structuring the soil microbiome
A conceptual model emphasizing direct host–microbe interactions has dominated work on host-associated microbiomes. To understand plant–microbiome associations, however, broader influences on microbiome composition and functioning must be incorporated, such as those arising from plant–plant and microbe–microbe interactions. We sampled soil microbiomes associated with target plant species (Androp...
